Demetrius stood with his father at the door while Demetria slung her things around outside, trying to stuff it in her cousin’s little car. Hassan wasn’t playing when he said if she couldn’t treat one right, she wouldn’t have access to either of them.
Dayvion was nine months now and, in his opinion, didn’t need her hoe ass titty anymore. All his other boys with the exception of Lake had formula and he could too.
“You really kickin’ me out and my baby still needs nurturin’?” Demetria continued to loudly argue.
Last night was the final straw when she had the nerve to slam the bedroom door on their son trying to be smart, and it caught Demetrius’ little hand. The knots on her head currently were the consequences of that and now being homeless as well.
“Just hurry the fuck up and get from in front of my crib bitch.”
Dayvion started squirming and fussing reaching for her, but Hassan wasn’t letting him go anywhere with her and she wasn’t touching him. He understood his baby may have needed his mother, but he’d seen this type of backhanded abuse before, and Demetrius wasn’t going to be a victim of from the useless hole who gave birth to him.
“Hassan you ain’t gotta call her out her name!” her cousin Gina said, pushing stuff around her small ass car so Demetria’s things could fit.
“Oh, I wasn’t talkin’ to your fat jalopy ass,” he said calm as ever. “Move some of your snacks around in there so she can get all this shit in that matchbox.”
“Yous a disrespectful ass nigga!”
“And you a big sloppy ass bitch.”
Looking behind him, Hassan watched Demetrius follow his mother’s every single move. His eyes were the same as hers. Big and light. He had so much hope when staring at her all the while being let down every time. He didn’t deserve that, especially in his own house so her ass had to go even if that meant shorting Dayvion. They were one band, one sound.
After another twenty minutes, they’d finally managed to get everything in the car. Demetria stomped up the porch steps with her arms out. Her head had two hell boy stumps, her nose was probably broken and her lip was swollen. Hassan marveled at his work and he’d do it again.
“Can I at least say bye to my baby?”
“No.”
“Hassan are you fuckin’ serious?!” she shouted. “I can’t even give my son a kiss goodbye?”
“Your…son,” Hassan laughed, shaking his head. “Fuckin’ listen to yourself. Your oldest son is standin’ right the fuck here!” he grabbed Demetrius bringing him closer and his eyes got even more hopeful. Was she finally going to give him a hug? A kiss? “Do you see your child? Look at his fuckin’ eyes! His face! It’s all you! Got the nerve to mistreat him! The fuck away from my shit before I light you the fuck up my nigga!”
“Oh, you ain’t gonna be threatin’ her in front of me!” Gina got back out the car.
“The fuck is you gon’ do about it?”
“Demetria let’s go before I catch a case out this bitch! Don’t know why you even deal with that fuckin’ evil ass nigga!”
“Listen to your cousin cause y’all real close to not even makin’ it off the block.”
Demetria looked from Dayvion then Demetrius. She wished she felt the same for them both, but she didn’t. In her eyes, one was defective who was hard to handle and the other was the sweetest baby ever.
Suddenly, Demetrius stepped forward and reached his arms up for her. All Hassan could see was himself. Pleading with a woman who wanted nothing to do with him. Damn near begging for a fucking hug. Something. Anything. Even at his small age, his son gave this bitch chance after chance while constantly being rejected.
When she patted his head like a fucking puppy, instead of picking him up, Hassan looked every which way for somewhere close to sit Dayvion, so he could pat her fuckin’ head with haymakers.
“On my kids,” Hassan had to count. “I’m tellin’ you, you lucky I got him in my arms. The fuck off my shit!” he kicked her ass and she went flying down the steps. “You gonna regret the way you treat your own son.”
“I can’t believe you just kicked her!” Gina came around to help her up. “You ain’t shit nigga!”
“I’m not shit, but your cousin denies her own child.”
“You don’t know what she—”
“No, fuck his ass, G. Fuck you, Hassan!” Demetria yelled with tears in her eyes. “You don’t have any idea what it’s like to birth a child like that! Not once have you ever considered how I felt!”
“A child like what?! He just a fuckin’ baby dumbass! It’s your job to help him figure out his emotions and shit but all you doin’ is makin’ him angrier but that’s cool! You gon’ find yaself on the other side of that shit!”
“What the fuck ever! Can’t stand you! I’ll be back, mommy love you Dayvion,” Demetria blew him a kiss and to both of their surprises he flagged his hand sideways as if to shoo away her kiss.
“No no!” he shouted at her.
“Dayvion…” she said in shock.
“You see what I tell you?” he proudly patted his son’s back, kissing his forehead. His baby already knew what time it was. “I told you, you treat your son like that and you gon’ find yourself on the other side. You already know how I’m imprintin’ on mine…” he smirked. “Tell that bitch you your brother’s keeper, Dayvion.”
Dayvion replied with a bunch of baby gibberish that made Hassan laugh but Demetria could tell he was probably turning into what she’d seen the other boys become.
He made sure his sons put each other above all else and they didn’t have a problem cursing about it either as their father never corrected them as long as they weren’t talking to him. She could see her baby being turned against her and Hassan’s ass reveled in it.
Turning to her oldest son, who was leaning on Hassan’s leg, she felt a chill as a very small smile curved his lips.
*******
Dayvion -- > Sav
“Daddy!” Demetrius ran to the door, happy that Hassan was finally home, but he stopped in his tracks when he saw his baby brother in his arms. He couldn’t stand that damn baby.
“Wait, let me sit your brother down. You wanna say hi to him today?” Hassan tried to put Sav near him.
“No!” he crossed his arms with a scrunched-up face, nudging his little brother away.
“Your brother with that bullshit again, sit here, Sav.”
“Who is Sav?” Mucci asked, picking up who she thought was Dayvion.
“The one you holdin’. Me and Ms. Vanessa at his school came up with it. Shit stick.”
“He not Dayvion no more?” Vant asked.
“No, he is but Sav his nickname, like we call Rushon, Wreck.”
“Sav, come here,” Lake said holding his arms out and his baby brother crawled over to him.
“No Dayvion, come over here,” Wreck called him and Sav went the other way.
“He knows both names that fast,” Mucci yawned as she stood up to stretch.
“That’s all I kept calling him on our way here.” Hassan took her place and all the boys moved in giving him no space. “What y’all watchin’?”
“Courage the Cowardly Dog, Daddy,” Vant told him like he should have known. “Shhh!”
Hassan sat with them for a while looking at the crazy ass dog try to continuously save Miriam and the nigga Eustace who don’t even like him. His sons were into it and never flinched once when creepy shit happened. Sav’s little ass had the nerve to be tuned into it too.
Glancing over, he had to do a double take. Demetrius who was sitting on Lake, was looking right at Sav who was laid on his back across Hassan’s lap, holding his feet.
After the show ended, Hassan managed the long task of getting all five of his sons bathed and ready for bed. Lake, Wreck and Vant went down without a problem. Demetrius and Sav were a different story.
Demetrius jumped up and down on the bed making Sav bounce all over while giggling his little head off. Hassan watched closely though because his son’s playful manner could quickly get replaced with something else and he would purposely try and step on his baby.
However, Hassan could watch Demetrius smile and laugh all day. His son seemed genuinely happy and when he looked down at Sav enjoying the fun too, his smile didn’t falter the way it usually would.
“Ard man, come on,” Hassan grabbed him mid-jump, slam dunking him on the bed making him scream in laughter.
Sav crawled to the edge wanting to be slammed too and Hassan did just that and his baby boy was rolling. He accidentally bumped into Demetrius when he was mid-crawl and stopped suddenly, staring up at his brother. He sat back on his legs, and they engaged in a long stare off.
Demetrius did this often. He stared at people for a long ass time but Sav, he did it the most too. Like he knew who he was, but he didn’t know how to perceive the baby whom gotten what he wanted. Like he wanted to like him, but his mind didn’t let him. His feelings refused it.
“Demetrius,” Hassan called him, trying to get his attention. “Demetrius.”
When he turned to his father, Sav took the opportunity and tried to touch his brother only to receive a hard shove that landed him on the floor.
Immediately Demetrius stared at his father in fear hoping to not get hit for pushing Sav. He just didn’t want his touch. Hassan glared at his son while picking a crying Sav from the floor.
“You ard man,” he patted his back. “Calm down, your brother didn’t mean it.” Hassan sat on the bed and turned to Demetrius. “Apologize to him,” he ordered and instantly his son’s face balled and he crosses his arms. “Now.”
Huffing, Demetrius pouted, “Sowwy Sav!”
And suddenly Sav stopped crying.

I wonder what Dem was thinking after witnessing Sav reject Demetria for refusing to pick his brother up. The fact that he smirked at Demetria’s rejection has me intrigued.
Say what you want about Hassan but he loved those boys. He did the best to be there for his sons. I cannot wait to read all about Dem and Sav.
Side note I was having a trying day today and this is just what I needed. Thanks Nina 🫶🏾
